Representatives of the SIP3 team participated once again in FOSDEM, the traditional festival of free and open-source software. The Real Time Communications (RTC) track at FOSDEM 2025 featured several insightful presentations on February 1st, 2025.

Răzvan Crainea presented “Engaging the Open-Source Community: Exploring the OpenSIPS Community Edition Projects,” highlighting community-driven SIP solutions with ready-to-use deployments. Jehan Monnier discussed “OAuth Authentication and Identity Validation in SIP Systems,” covering OAuth 2.0 and OpenID Connect integration for access management. Nuno Miguel Reis introduced “Enabling AI-Powered Conversations at Scale with Kamailio, FreeSwitch, and RTPEngine,” focusing on AI enhancements in VoIP.
Tim Panton‘s “RTCP, Racecars, Video, and 5G” explored a low-latency 5G video camera and RTCP-based bandwidth management. Maksym Sobolyev presented “SIP-V+T=❤️? Tales of Taking VoIP Out of SIP and Adding TCP Instead, or Proxy All Things,” discussing real-time TCP/TLS media over SIP. Philippe Normand provided a “WebRTC Support in WebKitGTK and WPEWebKit with GStreamer: Status Update,” reviewing GstWebRTC integration in WebKit.
Henning Westerholt gave an update on “Kamailio 6.0 (Development),” detailing key VoIP improvements. Rob Pickering covered “A Long, Short History of Realtime AI Agents,” showcasing open-source AI-driven WebRTC systems. Simon Ser and Thomas Flament presented “Chatting on IRC in 2025: Grandpa, What’s Up?” highlighting IRC’s modern advancements. Dan Christian Bogos discussed “Call Fraud Prevention Through Traffic Trends Monitoring Using CGRateS,” explaining fraud detection techniques. Tudor Avram and Răzvan Purdel introduced “AI for Meetings,” demonstrating AI-driven collaboration tools.

Although the RTC track lasted only half a day, it provided valuable discussions, networking opportunities, and knowledge exchange. SIP3 last participated in the event in 2019, motivated by its commitment to open-source contributions through its Community Edition at https://github.com/sip3io.
